Jakarta Receives Boat Assistance for Flood Management

Jakarta Governor, Pramono Anung, symbolically received assistance from the Chandra Asri Group in the form of lifeboats and supporting equipment for flood management, at Jakarta City Hall, Tuesday (3/11).

Thank you for the assistance of 20 boats and other equipment

This assistance was given as a form of support in dealing with the flood disaster in Jakarta.

Jakarta Governor, Pramono Anung expressed his gratitude for the assistance provided by Chandra Asri Group. It was very important, especially after the evacuation of a kid who was swept away during the flood some time ago.

"Thank you for the assistance of 20 boats and other equipment. When the Chandra Asri President Director wanted to provide assistance, we said yes and we welcomed it happily," he expressed.

He explained the boat was different from other boats as it had higher safety and comfort, and was easier to maintain.

"The other boats are pumped, this one is fixed, thus the safety and comfort are also much higher and can be maintained better," he explained.

Later on, the boat assistance would be distributed to areas in need, especially South Jakarta, East Jakarta, West Jakarta, and North Jakarta. He also emphasized the Jakarta Government would keep monitoring weather conditions and make efforts to prevent flooding.

Regarding the extreme weather prediction this week, he expressed his gratitude for the sunny weather conditions today. He also appreciated the weather modification operation conducted by the Jakarta Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) in collaboration with BMKG and the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB).

"Since the past few days, we and BPBD have been working together with BMKG and also BNPB, we are trying to modify the weather," he continued.

He also predicted that there would be tidal flooding in North Jakarta from March 28 to 29, 2025. To anticipate it, he would reactivate the water pumps in North Jakarta.

Chandra Asri Group President Director, Erwin Ciputra uttered this assistance is a form of partnership and corporate support in disaster management in Jakarta. He hoped that it could speed up the evacuation process and disaster management in affected areas.

"With the spirit of building synergy, today we are handing over 20 boats, 42 oars, and 80 life jackets. We're handing over all of this assistance to support the operations of the Jakarta BPBD," he added.

He continued the collaboration between Chandra Asri Group and Jakarta Government has been made since the Covid-19 pandemic, by providing assistance such as liquid oxygen and medical waste bags.

"Hopefully, it can run well and provide benefits to Jakarta people," he hoped.

Jakarta BPBD keeps intensifying preparedness in facing the potential for tidal flooding predicted to occur from March 27 to 29. This step was taken based on information from the BMKG regarding the potential for the highest sea tides during that period.

"There was a coordination meeting led by the Home Minister, the BMKG Head stated there is potential for tidal flooding from the 27 to 29," stated Jakarta BPBD Secretary, Marulitua Sijabat.

According to him, BPBD would immediately announce this information to residents living in coastal areas, especially around Pluit, Muara Angke, Muara Baru, and Cilincing. They would also prepare evacuation facilities, including boats that have just been received from Chandra Asri Group, as well as meet the basic needs of evacuees if needed.

"If evacuation is needed, we will prepare evacuation facilities using the boats, we can also maximize this in addition to the existing facilities," he explained.

BPBD also continues to intensify Weather Modification Operations (OMC) to reduce the potential for high rainfall. OMC has been ongoing since March 4-10 in collaboration with BNPB.

From March 11 to 20, OMC was conducted collaboratively with local governments, such as West Java and Banten, with a post at Halim Perdanakusuma Airport.

According to him, OMC has proven effective in significantly reducing rainfall reaching 60-70 percent, even up to 80 percent based on previous experience. BPBD has prepared two flights per day for OMC, with direction from BMKG which also monitors weather conditions at the Halim post.

"Reduce quite significantly from 60 to 70 percent of rainfall. So, the rainfall can be minimized enough, it can also be redistributed again for rainfall," he closed.
